FLOWS FOR THE FUTURE

2005 Environmental Flows Conference

As Texans place ever-increasing demands on our fresh water resources, finding a balance between meeting human needs and maintaining ecosystem health has become a priority for our state.  Ensuring adequate environmental flows will require the careful consideration of scientific approaches and public policies.  This conference will focus on questions related to ensuring adequate environmental flows, which include both instream flows in the rivers and freshwater inflows to the bays and estuaries.

Sponsored by the River Systems Institute, Flows for the Future will feature symposia integrating the following topics:

  • The context of environmental flows within bays, estuaries, and freshwater ecosystems
  • The development and National Academy of Science review of the Texas Instream Flow Programs
  • Applied research and management programs within major Texas watersheds
  • Current legislative measures addressing environmental flows

Additional conference activities include:

  • Reception at Aquarena Springs Center
  • Student Posters and Professional Exhibits
  • Continuing Education Course(s)
